Easytrieve questions fall into three piles: what a statement means, what a message code means, and how the JCL and libraries are installed. Each pile has a Broadcom book and a set of pages on this site. Use the site to learn the shape of the language, then the 11.6 manual when you need the full parameter list for the release on your LPAR.
The product library is on Broadcom TechDocs under CA Easytrieve Report Generator 11.6. Search that library rather than an old CA PDF. Plus, Classic, and 6.4 material still circulate, and several keywords changed.
| Book | Open it when |
|---|---|
| Language Reference | FILE, JOB, IF, REPORT, CALL, or field syntax |
| Messages | An EZTC compile code or a runtime message in SYSPRINT |
| Installation / Getting Started | CBAALOAD, EZOPTBL, EZTVFM, PGM=EZTPA00 |
| Release notes | A program compiled on 6.4 and fails on 11.6 |

| Task | Page |
|---|---|
| First program | Quick guide, then what Easytrieve is |
| Describe a file | FILE statement and the file-statements cheat sheet |
| Print a report | REPORT statement and the report-statements cheat sheet |
| Run it on z/OS | JCL execution and the JCL integration cheat sheet |
| Read a compile error | Compiler errors index |
| Migrate 6.4 source | Compatibility and version differences |
Forum posts and old SHARE handouts often show PGM=EZT, a work-file prefix that is not yours, or a function that exists only in Easytrieve Plus. Copy the pattern, then check the name against 11.6. A function or PARM keyword that is absent from your manual will not appear because a web page used it.
This site is the picture book. The Broadcom manual is the dictionary. When the picture book and the dictionary disagree about a word, use the dictionary for the edition your computer is running, which for current installs is 11.6.
