JCL is how z/OS finds EZTPA00, feeds it source, and attaches the data sets the FILE statements name. This sheet is the short version: the EXEC program, the DD names that show up on every step, and one compile-and-go skeleton. Dataset names below are placeholders. Your site HLQ and the options-table DSN live in the installation notes.
| DD | Purpose |
|---|---|
| STEPLIB | Easytrieve load library (CBAALOAD) and any DB2 or IMS libraries |
| SYSIN | Source member, or inline PARM plus source |
| SYSPRINT | Compile listing and runtime messages |
| EZOPTBL | Options table when the region has no site default |
| EZTVFM | Work space for virtual files |
| PANDD | Macro library, when the program uses macros |
| SYSLIN | Object passed to IEWL on a compile-then-link job |
| File DD | Same name as the FILE statement (TRANSIN, MASTER, RPTOUT) |
One step compiles the member and runs it when the compile is clean. The DD names TRANSIN and RPTOUT must match FILE statements in DAYRPT. REGION=4M is a common starting size for larger reports.
12345678//GO EXEC PGM=EZTPA00,REGION=4M //STEPLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=your.easytrieve.r116.CBAALOAD //EZOPTBL DD DISP=SHR,DSN=your.easytrieve.r116.EZOPTBL //EZTVFM DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(4096,(100,100)) //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //TRANSIN DD DISP=SHR,DSN=PROD.DAILY.TRANS //RPTOUT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSIN DD DSN=DEV.EZT.SOURCE(DAYRPT),DISP=SHR
PARM LINK(module) at the top of SYSIN names the load module. SYSLIN carries the object into IEWL. A later job executes PGM=that-module and only needs the file DDs.
1234567891011121314//COMPLK EXEC PGM=EZTPA00,REGION=4M //STEPLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=your.easytrieve.r116.CBAALOAD //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSLIN DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(400,(100,50)),DISP=(,PASS),DSN=&&SYSLIN //SYSIN DD * PARM LINK(MTHRPT) * source follows /* //LKED EXEC PGM=IEWL //SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSLIN DD DSN=*.COMPLK.SYSLIN,DISP=(OLD,DELETE) //SYSLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=your.easytrieve.r116.CBAALOAD //SYSLMOD DD DISP=SHR,DSN=PROD.EZT.LOAD //SYSUT1 DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(CYL,(1,5))
| Symptom | Look at |
|---|---|
| S806 on EZTPA00 | STEPLIB and CBAALOAD concatenation |
| Options table message | EZOPTBL, or the EZTINI default |
| Data set not found for a file | DD name versus FILE name |
| Compile RC 12 | SYSPRINT, first error line |
| S013 | SPACE or DISP on EZTVFM or an output DD |
The EXEC card calls the Easytrieve program. SYSIN is the homework you hand it. STEPLIB is the shelf where that program lives. Each FILE name is a labeled bin; the DD with the same name is the actual box of cards you put in that bin. SYSPRINT is the paper it writes its notes on.
