Big tape input. SORT FIELDS with OUTFIL INCLUDE=... Small test file fine. Production volume dies with SORT CAPACITY EXCEEDED / U0016.

Bumped REGION. Still unhappy. Is filtering on OUTFIL sorting everything first?

Exactly. OUTFIL INCLUDE filters on the way out. SORT already sorted the whole file.

Use INCLUDE COND= (or OMIT) before the SORT FIELDS so you throw rows away early. For tape input, FILSZ=Eestimate helps SORT size work files. Let SORT allocate SORTWKs unless you know better.

INCLUDE COND + FILSZ on the tape job. Capacity error gone. Runtime dropped a lot too.
