Should I use Easytrieve or DFSORT for this reformat?

Need to drop a few columns, filter on status, write a fixed layout. Mentor said "just use Easytrieve" and another said "SORT OUTFIL is enough."

When do people pick which?

Filter + column pick + fixed BUILD = DFSORT. Faster, no Easytrieve license questions, easy for ops to tweak.

Easytrieve when you need reports with CONTROL breaks, SQL, or logic that is painful in IFTHEN soup.

Agreed. I only reach for EZT when the next person maintaining it already thinks in Easytrieve.
